A broody mom who has babies will not lay while she is caring for them.

Hi all! Do you mind if I join in?

I am Mom to 2 Barred Rocks, 1 Buff Orpington, 2 ISA Browns and 1 Black Australorpe all 14 weeks old. The BA is a roo. I also have 6 Rhode Island Reds that are 11 weeks.
2 dogs and 1 cat. By reading other posts about IB's it seems that I need to get my nesting boxes ready.

I am in SE Ohio, originally from the big city now in rural area and I love it. I am looking forward to getting to know you all in our chicken adventures.

Well someone had them in pens and they got.lose. not sure on breed. there ostensibly about 30 running around.out here. should i remove the baby to get her laying again?

I dont think that matters, really, how old is the baby...if it a bantham, they really dont lay many eggs, she'll prob start up soon, YOU might want to try and separate and see what happens, My old broodies would start laying after a couple weeks, but Its worth a shot in seperating..also give layer feed and make sure shes not hiding them eggs

Yes get the nesting boxes ready. You should expect eggs when they are 18-22 weeks, but possibly earlier. Welcome to BYC! We are first time chickeners also, and now have 4 eggs to show for it.

I have 2 bsl 2 ba and 4 leghorns my 2 bsl started laying a week ago and today 2 of my white leghorns started laying along with 1 of my ba which I just witnessed an hour ago lay her first egg all chickens are 23 weeks old now the fun is really starting its awsum waiting for those eggs which are all times of the day although the eggs are pretty small right now which should grow in a couple months I hope its pretty gratifying
