First Egg Countdown

Pics
This is Red. I got her three weeks ago to replace a roo I am going to have to rehome. She is usually very quiet, then today I heard the bak, bak, bak, bakawk! I was sure it was the egg song, but no, it was her "yelling" at some stray cat that got in my yard. No squatting either. Does she look ready? The breeder said she was born in February, making her 20-23 weeks.

My GLW squatted for me this morning!!!!! Woo hoo!

I hope that means she'll be laying pretty quick! She is just as red and waddled out as the Orps! Last night my Sandy girl, the really loud one started singing the song! It sure sounds alot better than the squaking!
Congrats to those who have had their first eggs already!

She just stopped, and squatted! Like she was going to lay an egg right there! She looked up at me, stood back up and walked off! I wasn't sure what to look for either when I read the posts about them squatting, but I sure knew it when I saw it! She didn't lay down, just hovered there for a second with her wings out just a bit, but nothing came out!

Ok cool, Thanks I think i get it now. Mine have been getting much more friendly lately. I have been laying on the hammock in the yard and yesterday my BR jumped on and hung out with me for awhile. Today three of them did 2BR and 1 BA. It was the highlight of my day.

Yaay!!!! My first egg! It was either my Wyandotte or one of my Orpingtons!!! I was just getting ready to leave, around 10 am, I put them back in their covered run and decided to check the boxes one more time... and there it was! right next to the golf ball in the nesting box!!!! It's absolutely perfect!!!

I went to pet them, and they both squatted down, it was so funny! So I'm not sure who it was, I thought for sure it would be Lucy, but she didn't squat down when I pet her. Either way, I am so grateful for all the wonderful advice on BYC! Thank you everyone!!! It still hasn't sunk in yet that I have an egg!

Joining in here! I have about 6 pullets that are all 16 weeks old. Kindness and Joy will squat and let me scratch their backs and then they fluff and shake when I finish (we don't have a rooster, so I have to keep them happy!)

Here is my flock, hoping for eggs someday soon...
