First Egg Countdown

I already had my first girls laying eggs which were brown and green.

Other chicks which were coming along only 11 weeks old and had a whit egg surprise.

The countdown ended even before it began.

Could be a broiler. ;)

Congrats!! How old are they?

Congrats!! How old are yours? I am impatiently waiting for mine to start, so I am comparing mine to everyone else's age. My girls will be 15 weeks on Sunday.
My pullets/hens are about 19-20 weeks old now. The breeder that I bought them from as chicks, said that it's very unusual for them to start laying so soon. Because of the heat (Scottsdale, AZ) and their age. She wanted to know what I was feeding them. And here's what I do: They free range in the a.m. for about 2-3 hours. THey are in the coop (which has an enclosed pen) until about 4/5 and they are let out until 7:30. At which time they go back by themselves into the coop. They get all our vegetable and fruit scraps. We fed them Purina non medicated chick starter and then 2 months ago became a part of the Backyard Farmer Co-op in Phoenix. The feed now comes from a non-gmo organic farmer in Montana. It's so wonderful to be a part of that co-op. So that's it. They seem happy and healthy pullets/hens and really looking forward to getting more eggs. My kids say they taste better than candy - lol!

congrats everyone on their first eggs!!!! I to am impatiently awaiting the arrival of our first egg but I am so excited today because our speckled Sussex Dale squatted for me today!!!! ;-0 it won't be long now right?

Good news! I now know my RIR is laying. Watched her today go in to coop and I retrieved her egg after she came out. So I got my third egg now, two which she laid. The other egg is still a mystery as to who produced it, but hopefully I'll solve it soon.

Well, I was going to join this thread this weekend after I built my nesting boxes, but when I came home from work today I found this in a corner of the run:

My first egg!! But since I have 5 pullets, I guess I'll countdown for the others to start laying :) I have three Legbars who are 20 weeks and 2 olive-eggers who are about 16 weeks.
