First Egg Countdown

We are on our official wait. I have 10 hens/pullets. They range in age from about 18 weeks (wellies) to a 24 wk old Columbian Wyandotte. No egg songs. No squatting but the BR does have an awful red comb. I'd bet guessing that she will give us our first egg. She is about 22 weeks old. Here is a pic of her and some light brahmas and columbian wyandotte (middle).

First attempt on Thursday...Both "pieces" were in the box. How weird is that?

Today's attempt...much better...huge in fact So proud!

Last night we had one RIR lingering outside the pop door, so I gently pushed her in and she squatted! How long now???

My oldest pullets will be 18 weeks on Monday. All three Dominiques now have bright red wattles and combs, and one has been squatting for over a week now. She was practicing the egg song out in the run this afternoon , so I expect her to start laying fairly soon. The other two Doms aren't squatting yet, though, and the rest of the 18-week birds range from faintly pink to reddish and aren't looking for lovin' either, so I doubt any of them will be paying rent for a few weeks yet.

Just got our first egg!!!!

I screamed so loud my throat is hoarse! There is no words to describe the joy of the first egg!

Can't wait to check again tomorrow!!

Yay! We have been hearing the egg song from one of our dominiques for more than 2 weeks now, but her comb isn't fully develop yet so I thought she was just a big mouth. Not so! Looks like this morning's song and what she did before the commotion yesterday.
She laid outside the run under the coop, and one in the run. I don't let them out before 2:00 pm so maybe I'll have to lock them up for a few days til they get used to the nest boxes. At least this way I'll find out if the leghorns have been "holding it" til they can run for the woods. Is it possible for doms to start laying before leghorns? I have been looking for any possible nests but haven't found any.
