I never appreciated the egg before our chickens started laying. Now I marvel when I take them out of the nest, and when I crack them into a pan or a bowl. What a work of art!

Hehe, I know, and I kind of miss the fluffy stage, but they're a lot of fun in full feathers, too....and twice as wily!

We're not in it for the eggs so much as the experience, but now that they're getting close, my DH and I are starting to get excited about the prospect - it's kind of surreal..."These nutty mcfluffbutts are going to make eggs??? I almost don't believe it!"

I make sure that when I collect the eggs I thank my girls for their hard work. They are a lot of fun.

I want them to know I appreciate the eggs.

I have 2 of 4 laying. The other 2 girls aren't even squatting yet. *sigh* They are younger, though, so I'm not being pushy. The EE is 22 weeks and the BA is almost 21 weeks. I am able to be much more patient since my marans and red star give me 12-13 eggs a week.

I've been getting pullet eggs for about 3 weeks, all from what I think is only 1 of my 10 or 11 pullets. They are 22 and 20 weeks. My hens are molting and egg laying is down, so I'm not so patiently waiting the others!!!!!

Peep has been squatting for a few days now, every time I go to touch her. I can't get close enough to Repeep.

Since this has started the only thing we've ended up with is a rooster! Argh. He's a sweety, but he's no egg, lol. 20 weeks yesterday and still counting... come on Peep, lay me an egg!!

It's the time of the year when the chickens slow down or stop laying eggs. It seems like they just started, so not fair

One of my golden Comets laid her first egg in several weeks on Sunday! It was a 2.8 ounce double yolker, so I guess that is like a first egg after moulting?
