Here is a picture of my first real cuddle chicken:



He rides around with me when I feed them and just likes to be with me. I am going to keep him and have a breeding flock of EO Marraduna Basque Chickens.

I have 8 chickens in the 15-16 week old range.. My SLW and my Sex Links have started this funny squatting thing. ( I think its the squatting everyone is referring to) and turned red in the face, So i opened the nesting boxes up 3 days ago.. Today two of the nesting boxes were all moved around and the golf balls were moved.. I guess this means soon I will have eggs. I am so excited I just cant wait for that first one

Yay! The darker red sex link just squatted for me!!!! I'm so excited! How long before do you think it will be before she lays? They are about 17.5 weeks now and have been complaining constantly. lol

Ta Da!!! First Lay yesterday! Just a few days past 17 weeks So exciting! I'm betting it was this girl: Iron Man she's our Red Star. She's the only one that's been squatting so far.





Now any advise on how to get my boys to understand that this won't hatch into a baby chick?? ha ha. I figure I'll let them pick a little treat to make and we'll use this egg- maybe that will solve the problem quickly.

Grats Jamandack! I suspect you're right about being able to distract them with a treat. Or if you wanted you could tell them that eggs need both mommies and daddies to turn into a chick (depending on their age-group).

Danielle27, your girl sounds close! The noisy stage is usually the last indicator. I'd say you'll get an egg within the week.

I got my chickens from Ideal hatchery in december 21. I got 1 production red and 8 EE. I was sure the production red will start laying at may...but this saturday the ones that started were 3 of the EE. who knows. I'll post later the photo. Finallyyyyyyyy!!!! EGGS HERE.....MY FIRST EGGS.

They usually lay the first egg about a week or two after the squatting starts. Your sexlinks are one of the earliest to lay eggs18 to 20 weeks on average. You should have eggs from them soon
