First Egg Countdown

I'm joining in. We have a Silkie that is our "extra". She's 10 months and we get a little bantam egg from her about every 2-3 days.
Our original crew consists of 9 hens and a roo. We have 2 EE's, a Splash Orp, and 2 Black Stars (sex linked) that will be 17 weeks Saturday. We have 2 bantam Cochins and 2 Lavender Orps that are 14 weeks.
I'm eyeballing those Black Stars! Their faces are red. Their combs coming out. I'm ready!

So many eggies coming now!!! I thought the fever would subside once I got my first egg but it may be worse, lol. I can't wait to see all the girls have eggs! The different sizes, colors aaahhhh so much to look forward too. I fuzzy pink heart chickens.

I'll have to get some recent pictures of my hens. They are 16 weeks old now, and of course I'm excited about the first eggs. I'm thinking August. I have 5 hens: 2 australorps, 1 cochin, & 2 EE. I'm interested in hearing about the characteristics of the Welsummers and Barnevelders. I'm planning to add at least a couple more next spring and beginning to think about what kind to get.

Congrats Linseylew!!! That is a fine egg, and a pretty hen. And welcome to the thread everyone!

Well, our Caramel has been giving us one a day since last Saturday (except Sunday), mostly in the mornings. She doesn't seem to do the egg song before/after laying, and just lays where she is. We've had her in a seperate sleeping cage (for a while longer anyway), and she laid in that around 7:30am. The next morning she laid in the under coop area where she was being kept seperate from the other girls. This morning, I was hoping to get out soon enough to let her out to have access to the nesting boxes/coop area. Well, my son let her out before I got out there, and though she did finally lay in the coop

, it wasn't in the nesting boxes, as I hadn't had a chance to open them up yet (I have to keep them closed at night right now, or else my four younger girls who aren't laying yet will pile in one to sleep & poop. She was in there, eating/drinking and so I figured I had time, but when I opened the lid and she came out, there was a still-warm egg sitting where she had just been. Ah well....

Jasperina, I love your golden fuzzy footed hen!! I'm new to this chicken thing so please bear with me as I don't know the breeds. We have a bantam cochin I think who has the feathers on its feet and I call him/her fuzzy feet. They are so cute!

Congrats to everyone here who's had their first egg!

I love this first egg count down!! I have 5 standard sized girls that are getting close to that time, 3 gold laced wyandottes, 1 black sex link and 1 (my very favorite) rhode island red. They are 15 1/2 wks old and I can not wait until they start laying!!
