First Egg Countdown

We got our first egg on Tuesday!!!!! The girls had been squatting like crazy the past few weeks.

We think it was Millie

Everyone is very excited.

Yesterday we didn't get anything.

Then today I found these!!

One pretty blue egg - so I guess two girls are laying now. And one really gross feeling soft shelled egg :)
I didn't know we'd be getting blue eggs - so this was super cool.

Raising chickies is so dang cool!!

I have gotten one egg from the 1 year old everyday since she started laying again. But at different times of day. 1st egg was between 10-11 am. Yesterday's egg was between 1-2 pm and today's eggs between 3:30-4 pm. I thought they laid the same time everyday.

I had read that they lay every 25 hrs or so ... so that sounds about right. Until they lay around bedtime, then they skip that day and start again in the early morning. But I don't expect my girls to lay every day ..... and I've gotten a total of 7 eggs or so this far in my whole life.... so I don't know anything except what I read :)

and I agree with JesseK... chickens are really cool. If I knew they were this much fun, I would have done it years ago!!

Me too!

I bought my house 1.5 years ago - got chickens as soon as we could swing it. I just wish I would have waited and bought a place in the country so I could have all the pretty breeds that I now know about. ha!

I'm so jealous!! What does it take to get these lazy girls to give 'em up?

(In all fairness, they're only 16 weeks old, but these "first egg" posts are making me nuts)
Gwen is an early birdy or was an older hatchling idk. because i've actually only had her for about 4 months maybe a little towards 4 1/2. So i was surprised seeing her do the squatting etc! when you see them start squatting for you or the roo if you have one its getting close :D

20 weeks old and we found our first egg this morning!!!!

Not sure who laid it, but it was on our misting patio for the ducks. I'm thinking it might have been one of my Delawares because they've been the extremely vocal ones lately. Now i need to put fake eggs in the boxes so they'll learn where they are supposed to lay - NOT on the concrete patio! I'm so shocked and surprised that it didn't crack when it fell out!
