First Egg Countdown

Hey Butchgood, congrats! So does that mean I am the only one still waiting for eggs??!!!! I guess I need to go talk to my girls, too!!! And, it's not all that hot here..lower 90's.

Unfortunately, no. I'm waiting, too. My black Australorp is 18 weeks old and has looked ready for several weeks. But, no dice. My BR and GLW are 19 weeks and appear to be enjoying a protracted childhood. Meanwhile, they're all going through organic feed ($$$) like a football team goes through pizza! <sigh>

Hey, I noticed you are in the NE GA mountains! I am in Dawsonville! Yea, I decided I couldn't go the organic route because I feed my chickens a lot of leftovers, and we don't always eat organic. I would love to, but it is not in our budget right now! Well, my chickens will be 20 weeks old on Wednesday. Good luck!

Congrats!

I did get 6 eggs yesterday, but I have 20 of laying age.

Congrats on the new eggs!! Woohoo love seeing them!

And yuck indeed Happy Chooks, it was 103 here yesterday, and my new batch of Pencilled Palms that I'm sharing with my friends got heat stroke in their yard. I got a frantic call at 11pm telling me that one had died and the rest just layed still in their brooders (thank go they had enough sense to bring them indoors).

There was much tense rushing over to their house and forcing electrolyte water on the babies, but they perked up right away, and we havn't lost any more as of this morning. Thank god. I've gone to heck and back to get them, I'd be devistated to lose them.

Here too, they never get out temps or forecast correct. Hovering between 94 and 101, and I thought we moved from the heat belt! I water down the sand in the run and under their smaller cover and they like to lay in it.

Sorry about everyone's heat tragedies :( I too am still waiting, my oldest girls are 18 weeks today. There are two or three that are lookin' good in the comb area, but I've only heard like 2 egg songs and there is no squatting going on, so I'll bet I won't see any til 20 weeks...on a funny note, this morning I heard the egg song and got all excited so I went out to see who it was. I just knew it would be a Cinnamon Queen....well, it turned out to be Buzzard Chick, the Silver laced Polish rooster! That little booger can cluck with the best of 'em, apparently.

Was nearly 20 weeks to the day for me. Today mine a 20 weeks old. So far just the one egg yesterday. None yet today...but today is not quite over with yet.

I swear I should have spent more time on here earlier because I laugh so much.

Well, I warned the others, they better fess up like Buffy. I hadn't left for 10 minutes and my EE started the egg song! But it must have been and egg thought or egg fart or something. Then Buffy did her singing and proudly ran out, so I went and got her little egg and showed them what I expect from all of them soon.

Is your avatar pic a Bantam Ameracauna?

No, we are still waiting too, none of our 5 girls who are all of laying age have started yet. Hopefully soon, I'm so excited!!

No worries Flowerbh, I am technically waiting for a first egg from my EE Biti. We still havn't decided if we are taking her back after her turkey buddies are sent to turkey heaven (right now they're growing out on our friends' property because it's bigger). Our friends really like the idea of colored eggs!

These two are my EE they sold as an Americana, and my Buffy the Orp. My avatar is Lacy my silver laced Wyandotte. I don't have much imagination when it comes to chicken names lol.
I got someone else's first little brown egg yesterday! I think it belongs to my BR, Baby. Buffy's egg yesterday was a whopper twice the size of her first little ones. I didn't think they started laying bigger ones so early.
