First Egg Countdown

Yay on all your egg successes! My other SLW was in a nest yesterday and laid me a very small but perfect egg!

I bought six little mixed banties from the feed store yesterday for my Lil Buddy when they are old enough. Crossing fingers they aren't all roosters. I sure wanted to order bantam Cochins online but didn't want 25. Ideal Poultry as I understand it will fill the rest of the quarter box with male's of other breeds if you only order a small amount, so thought I would just get some "Mystery Chicks". This Friday I am going to have my husband fence off a small area for this little guy. Then I was thinking about a small adjoining run with a little coop. It would be so much more convenient tho to be able to merge the two sizes. I found the information on flock introduction on here and it has great advice, and reminded me that I did introduce new chickens by the pen within a pen way. Then after a month I put the new ones on the roost at night and had no problem.

Last evening we were washing horses down and the hens were out foraging, so I let my Lil Buddy out into the horse pen to the stall. This was right next to us and the hens. I didn't realize how tiny he is next to them! I sure want a little flock of bantie cochins, but it would be pushing the husband limits I think and it's hard to be able to just get 4 or 5 :).

I got my first egg!...... 5 days ago... Since then, NOTHING! These hens are sadistic!

My SLW are 18 weeks old....ANXIOUSLY waiting on some eggs. I have seen others post with wyandottes that have started laying as early as 18 weeks, and I have seen others still waiting after 30 weeks.

I have not seen any signs of squatting yet, but they have become a lot more vocal over the last couple of days. I keep hearing new noises I have ever heard them make....hopefully this is a sign that they are not far off!

I have been so into hatching eggs i didnt think about my girls ages. they are 18 weeks old now. 3 breeds. BO's ,BR's and LB's.
I have heard sounds i havent heard before the last 2 weeks and yesterday i thought a Brahma was laying one but i think i moved the run onto her wing feather or foot for a moment POOR GIRL!! She was like laying down with her head down making this long ruck ruck sound.I move the run a little more and she jumped up and ran .Oh well.
I havent put a nest box in there yet. What wll they do if i dont? Ido have a dog carrier just to play with on top and in.

They do look like they are really thinking about getting into the hatching mood. If these are hatchery wyandottes, they'll lay well before 30 weeks.

And Mehera, sometimes I think chickens are sadistic too :p

I'm in the same boat here. I got two green eggs early last week and none since. Another started laying in the meantime, but that's only 2(ish) out of 9 chickens! The EEs are 22 weeks now and the BR are 20. I swear I'm like a chicken stalker. I probably go checks for eggs 4 or 5 times a day!
