My amberlink laid her first and second under the roost. I removed all the shavings from under there to make it less comfortable. The next day she found the nest box.

One of my hens laid her first egg on Sunday outside of the nest box and all the other girls tried to take credit (lots of vocalization and strutting around), but then in the evening another used the box and on Tuesday yet another used the box. It's my first flock and these are our first eggs - it's a miracle!

I'm still amazed at how much they know on their own - they seem to be born with all the right instincts.

Easiest critters I've ever raised.

How exciting! I'm sure she'll get it in no time.

I need to work on my free range chickens... if that's what you want to call them. I do lock them up in the coop at night except for one girl who rather roost in a tree. Other wise they have full run of the farm from sunrise to sunset. Anyway, I ended up finding my first eggs today in a nest they had behind a barrel in the barn. I left one egg in the nest and marked it with a X hoping they will continue using it until the cooler weather arrives. Once it cools down I'm planning on locking them up in the coop for a day or two in hopes of them laying in the nesting boxes

Congrats on the egg and all the eggs that will surely follow
