Well it finally happened. I keep waiting for all these new girls of mine to start laying. I check the boxes all the time, well today one of the girls was acting funny out in the run and I walked to the other side of the run to see what was up. There was an egg lying on the ground, it was broken open in the middle and the shell was like rubber but they hadn't eaten it. SOOOOOOO!!

Out with the chick starter, in with the Layer ration and extra oyster shells on the side. Woohoo things are going to start picking up now.

I so cannot wait for my first egg!!!!!! just a half hour ago i was out in the coop and I placed a pullet in the nesting box and if it were the movies you would have seen a dazed look cross my face and then a movie of my daydream of gathering eggs (wearing a little house on the prairie frock of course:)).

mine are only 7 weeks....can you hear the impatient finger tapping where you are?

Sorry couldn't help laughing.

Put a golf ball in the nesting box. They will think it's an egg and hopefully lay in the right place. However, when they first start laying, they are clueless to what's happening, so they could end up anywhere.

I do have to say, that gathering eggs is something that never gets old. I'm always in awe of those perfectly shaped beautiful little eggs.
