So, the little EE is in her nest trying for her first egg and others are watching her keenly. Two non layers (yet) break into a loud buck buck buck dDAKup, the egg laying song before she'd laid her egg. Later, one of the singers got onto the nest and looked serious, got up, her egg song thundering out, but no egg. Are beginners always a little quirky at first? I totally enjoyed the few hours in the coop watching the drama(s) unfold.

Yes, they can be extremely enthusiastic about any egg that has been laid. They will sing with, for and about any eggs, and roosters will join in too quite often.

enjoy,

Sandie

Wow!!! I've got a rooster, he gets in the nest box next to any hen that is laying and sings so loud, I was wondering what that was about. Cracks me up!!!!
