I just found these in the flower bed. I saw my Ancona over there earlier, I'm guessing she laid the first one maybe yesterday or my brown leghorn laid her first egg today also. They are both white and small. I put one in the nesting box in the coop. Hopefully they will learn to go lay their eggs there. They have been in there checking out the nesting boxes for weeks now. Any suggestions on getting them to lay in the coop?.

fake eggs or golf balls in the nests. Make the nests as nest like as possible. Replicate where they laid their eggs. A dark secluded spot with comfy bedding.

My other 4 older hens are laying so there were 3 eggs in the one box. I'm thinking it might be the nesting material. It's not hay or straw. It's some kind of shavings ( not pine). May have to go out and buy something else :/

They may be being bullied from the nests by the older girls.....
....or you might need to lock them all up in the coop and run for a few days until the new layers get habituated to laying in the coop nests.

So yesterday Wendy did not lay an egg, but I did change to a softer shaving. Today I saw Wendy and Summer ( my brown leghorn) trying to get to the spot in the flower bed. So now I don't know if the 2 eggs I found the other day were from 1 chicken or 2. But anyway I had no time this morning for watching chickens because I had an appointment, and I could tell they both needed to go sit and lay, so I put all the chickens in the pen before I left and came home to 2 white eggs! One tiny and one a little bigger. :celebrate So now I am just waiting for my Wellsummer to lay her first, but I don't think she is ready yet...soon.
