I just found my first egg. Had to have been from one of my 17.5 week old RSLs. I still have about 50 pounds of starter left, is it ok to keep feeding it? My flock is varied in age, 12-17.5 weeks. How long does it take for their laying to become regular?

Thanks

Absolutely you can keep feeding it! She successfully laid one egg while eating it, and she'll lay more even if you don't switch over to layer feed yet.

If the egg shell wasn't hard or if you just really feel the need to provide calcium supplements then you can feed her broken shells back to her or put out some oyster shell. In my experience, the others that don't really need the extra calcium will not mess with any supplements that you put out.

Congrats on the first egg! I have a BSL that laid her first little egg yesterday. Exciting stuff!

The egg was totally normal. Just dirty because it was laid in muddy composted leaves. Haven't cracked it yet buy I'll probably have in for breakfast after showing it to a little boy I babysit. He is 4. I asked him yesterday how long he thought it'd be before we got our first egg and he said 5 hours. Much closer than I would have guessed! So when should I expect them to start laying regularly? Next to a large Kroger egg

My first egg was a hoax. I found a second one and went to crack it and realized that the shells were extremely hard. Come to find out my brother threw guinea eggs into the run. Still waiting on the real thing

So my BR gave me her first egg two days ago and now nothing. Does anyone know when I should expect her to start laying regularly? Gave her a little pep talk this morning! Hahaha!! My RIR and 2 EE should be laying in a couple of weeks, the wait seems sooooo long!
