We got our first egg a couple nights ago but it didn’t have a shell. How can you tell if they are eating their eggs? Or is it normal for tgem
To be so sporadic until their bodies figure it out?
The suspected hen has been acting weird ever since… I assume just hormonal teenage behavior?

Also they will be 19 weeks tomorrow, I believe. So may by e on the early end for Easter eggers?
All very normal behavior and egg oddities for new layers! And 19 weeks is quite early for non-production hens!

Have their combs reddened?

They have turned red! And I started putting oyster shells out a week or so ago.
I only have 3 but my smallest one seems to have matured fastest, she’s been squatting for a week, the middle one just started so I’m guessing will probably be next and the biggest girl will be last, I’m guessing. 2nd day of no egg after that one… unless they’re getting eaten. she’s really messing with me lol.

Pretty sure the lightest one is the girl.
She also had a couple hours yesterday where her back end was pulsing and she was running to and from all her hiding spots all frantic and nothing ended up happening. She has been completely fine since then.

I really do doubt that you have an egg-eater. There’s just so many steps in the egglaying process that it often takes a bit to get everything in sync.

If you’re truly worried, check wherever you found the shell-less egg (and any nest boxes) for yolk and any mystery substances. Also check beaks. If you’re home during the day, listen for squawking and unusual commotion and check for eggs.

I guess I’ll try to catch her and put her in the coop when I see her starting to go back there? And hopefully her system regulates and she’ll start laying hard shells? I have oyster shells readily available and they are on layer feed. Shes such a stinker. My sweetest most timid girl turned ornery on me lol
