A month ago we got two hens from friends! They haven’t laid anything until today, when I found this little thing in the coop this morning!

It was laid by our sapphire olive egger. She’s probably 2-3 years old. I found it on the floor under where she roosts, not in the nesting box. Not sure what it means. Does this just mean she is beginning to ovulate again?

This is the time of year most chickens begin to molt. That plus being put into a new environment, will put laying off and also cause egg quality flaws.

Look on the back of this hens neck. If you see a little carpet of pin feathers poking through her feathers, she's starting molt.

I checked and didn’t see any pin feathers! So if she isn’t starting to molt, is it possible that this little egg means she is starting to lay again?
