Our Production Red layed her first egg four days ago and has yet to give us another. Is this common?

Sometimes when one of my girls sings the "egg song", the others join in. I think it has to do with how enthusiastically the one actually laying the egg is singing. Could be Mabel was wanting a turn in the nesting box. I think it is just a "flock" thing. I have a flock of 5 and a flock of 2 and in both flocks, when one does something all the others want to/do the same thing. When pullets first begin to lay it does take them a little bit to get all the kinks out of their systems but once they do get everything going they will lay consistently for their breed. Congratulations on your first eggs! Finally got egg number 2! It was five days between the first and second egg. Boy oh boy was the other chicken (Mabel) making lots of noise. It was like she was pacing and worriend for Clara. Is that normal?
