Hey everyone...New to the egg and chicken world...Have 24 chickens with 20 hens and 4 roosters....Bought from a hatchery in Iowa as they were born on Feb 29th so they are a day shy of 20 weeks. I got one egg this morning and I would like to get a few baby chicks before I get run out of the city with my roosters! I put the one egg in the incubator this morning as the man at Tractor supply said it would be ok. Does anyone know what the general rule is and if this should be ok? I guess in 21 days if nothing pops out of the egg then it was not fertilized!!! The hen was not sitting on the egg yet they were all in the coop playing around and up in the box was a lone egg.

Well if it did hatch it would be all alone and chicks do best in pairs or more, same with big chickens. Maybe wait for a big clutch for a broody hen.
