yesSo is it acceptable to go ahead and give all my 16-17 week old girls oyster shell? That was my plan until they finish this bag of feed, at which point I'll put them on a layer feed.

Say what?? Never heard of that never saw and documented case. My understanding of chicken physiology would make that impossible. Hens can sometimes crow, but roosters never will lay an egg.so if there is already one or two roosters in the flock, roosters can "turn themselves into hens" and they will crow, but lay eggs also...(that isn't very common though, but i have seen it twice before)
that's what i heard, the roosters will kind of turn themselves into a hen...it happened at my local farm (not the egg though, im not sure about that) but the rooster doesn't mount, has some characteristics of a hen and some of a rooster, and we are pretty sure it is a rooster, because of the rooster feathering, and the comb (we knew from the beginning it was a rooster...)Say what??
