First egg

We got our first egg today!!! So exciting! Question...we have 4 girls we got on the same day. Will the others start laying soon also? Their combs and waddles are much smaller and not red yet. Do they just mature at different rates?

Congrats on your first egg! (I’m still waiting for mine). How old are your girls and are they all the same breed?

They are almost 20 weeks..all same breed, Rhode island red hybrids.

I have 2 RIR’s in my mixed flock of 10, they are 21 weeks and have gotten lot more vocal this week. Did your layer increase her bawking before you got an egg?

I didn’t notice much noise, but she was very open to us holding her and seemed more loving.

Also, her waddle and comb were much larger and redder than other birds.
