We have 6 black astrolorps. We’ve been patiently waiting for eggs (born the first week of April) today we found our first small egg in their coop!!!!! We’re so excited ! My question is will the chicken that laid the egg, lay one every day? Should I expect eggs each day? I can’t wait for the others to lay. Also, is there anything I can do to produce larger eggs.

Congratulations! It depends on the bird but she probably won't lay every day right from the start. And even once she is laying in her full routine she may not lay daily. Again it depends on the bird. Some will lay every other day; some will lay a few times a week. No matter the circumstances, I hope you enjoy your new flock!

I got my first egg this week too! My pullet, a SLW, laid one egg, took a day off, then laid two more in two days. What I find interesting is that her eggs are light brown, but turn a darker brown in the fridge!

It's not uncommon for the egg size to increase a bit once they get all their egg laying plumbing fine tuned.

Congrats!

And congratulations to you too!

I'm so jealous, I originally started with 30 chicks nown down to 2, i think we end up with 15 left after iraddicating some cocks. They are 18 weeks now and still no eggs. Are the astrolorps known to be late egg layers? I'm so impatient for the first egg.
