First egg

Yay! My Ameraucana Princess Lay-a gave me her first egg today!!! She had been squatting for almost a week so I was trying to keep a close eye on her. When I went to check on her earlier she was in a nesting box with her mouth open like she was panting so I sat there for a few minutes and when I checked again...TaDa!!! I'm so excited I'm telling everyone! I sent a picture to my son and I put it on Facebook but I doubt any of those people will be impressed. LOL So I made sure I told fellow chicken lovers!

This is my first egg from this new little flock. My previous flock sadly was gotten by a possum. We took care of the problem and the neighbor (who also lost some chickens) took care of the possum so we got us some new. The other 3 are a bit younger so we wont get eggs from them for a while yet.

The first egg is always amazing! The best part is you know where the eggs came from and they're so delicious!

How old is she? I just got an Ameraucana and hopefully I'll have eggs in the fall from her!

She is roughly 24 or 25 weeks old. From the day we got her I started counting when we could expect eggs from her. I figured the first wee in May and she proved my math correct. LOL
