My EE laid her first egg! I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED!!! 😆 Is there a way you can preserve the egg as an ornament? Ovbiously remove the yoke sort of deal. I think the idea would be so cool or maybe that's just me 🤓

Congrats! First eggs are the best! Looks like a pretty blue egg there. :love
Yes, put a piece of tape over each end and poke a hole on both top and bottom (I use a long thick needle). The tape will keep the egg from cracking. Then use the needle to also break the yolk inside. Then I cut a straw to about 1.5 inches and place one end over the top hole, and blow out the content. Some eggs are easier to blow out than others for some reason :p

Having chickens helps you learn that what most people take for granted -- a simple egg, laid naturally by a bird -- can be the source of such happiness. Every first egg by every one of my girls is still a cause for celebration.

And, yes, I do have a basket of blown-out first eggs that also includes any unusual eggs. My runner duck queen, Quinn, passed away this fall but her complete egg-within-a-green-shelled egg is a treasured part of my permanent collection.

Congrats on your first egg and here's to plenty more in the future!
