I'm so EGG-cited, Caramel (15 week RIR/Leghorn), laid her first egg(s) yesterday!

I noticed her comb was getting red, in comparison to her sister, and her bottom a bit wide and mentioned it to my family that she might lay soon but my husband said it was too early for her. I found her in the squatting position the other day in the coop but no egg. Yesterday, the same thing, but when I went to go check on her, she had a beautiful egg under her! She looked exhaused and didn't seem to know what to do as she kept looking at the egg then me. After bringing in the egg and taking photos, I checked on her once again, only to find she had laid a cute mini egg! What a suprise! When I was inside, taking more pics, I heard her announcing her new eggs to the neighborhood. I was so proud of her!

My husband couldn't believe she laid two eggs and thought for sure one was from our other hens.

Thank you BYC for always providing me a wealth of information as I am new to raising chickens. I'm so glad I found your site because I feel as if it prepares me for each new stage in the life of my chickens.

Hooray! It's so exciting to get your first egg! The hen in the first photo looks shocked!

Way to go Caramel, she is cute and so are her eggs and 15 weeks that has to be a record.
My RIR lays an egg everyday rarely taking a break . Happy egging to you.

Thanks for sharing my joy with me!

It's nice to know someone cares!

The small egg would be hers. She wouldn't lay two in a row (takes about a day to make an egg) so the big one must be from another hen.
The small eggs are called "pullet eggs" because of their size. Older hens lay bigger eggs and the pullets lay small eggs. I love pullet eggs they are so cute!!! Plus, it means that one of my new girls is staring to lay!!!

Congrats!!
