first egg

This is my first time raising chicks. My chicks are only 16 1/2 weeks old and I got my first egg today!

Boy was i surprised wasn't expecting any eggs for at least another 3 weeks.

Congrats on your first egg! You certainly put mine to shame... 40 weeks.. LOL

Our first hen laid at 18 1/2 weeks, and I think it would have been earlier but the weather has been so hot here. What breed is it?

I have 6 Columbian Rock Cross hens.
Put hay in the nesting box last night.When I looked in this afternoon there was a nest with a second egg! What is the chance I have 2 chicks laying early or do you think the same chick laid 2 days in a row? Is it the breed or just the chick that is an early layer? Can't wait to see if there are more eggs tomorrow.

When mine started, they each laid an egg a day for the first 3 days, I was short an egg yesterday. Hopefully she is catching her breath and is going to give me something a LITTLE bigger. Do you know how hard it is to crack those micro-eggs?

I haven't tried to crack my eggs yet. I'm waiting for a few more so there will be enough egg for an omlette.
They man at the feed store told my husband it will be about a month after they start laying until they have full size eggs
