So my ducks are 16 weeks old. They are Cayugas and Golden Hybrids. Today I found a small tan colored waxy egg in the coop amongst a bunch of chicken eggs. The ducks and chickens are intermixed in the same coop and run. Could it be a duck egg?

It must be a chicken egg. Your ducks are too young still. Although it might be a duck egg. Usually they don't start laying until about 18-22 weeks. I'm not sure what color the golden hybrid duck eggs are. I'm assuming white but could be wrong. Your Cayuga will lay black eggs at first and then they will change to a gray and eventually to white. I'm assuming a chicken laid it but again I'm unsure of what the hybrids egg color is, so it could be possible you have an early egg laying duck.

Any idea what would make a chicken egg waxy?

The fact that it's waxy says duck egg to me. Is it possible your ducks are older than you think?

Nope, they are 16 weeks old I am sure of it.

Well today was the third day I got a waxy egg. The first two came in as pewees and this one bottomed out the scale, even past jumbo.

Than it must be a duck egg. Maybe the hybrid lays sooner than other duck breeds?
