Well, everyone my six girls finally gave me an egg!!!!! It's so exciting. They are 20 weeks old. Anyone else have a great story about their first egg!!

I have an interesting story...I have been getting ONE small egg daily from the larger coop. In this coop...there are 17 Buff orps, 5 Ameracaunas, 4 Langshans,2 Silver Pheonix, one Dominique and 3 Cornish Cross...ALL are 20 weeks old. So....I get this egg every day, and I am thinking, one of the buffs are laying...well..the other day..I was out there and I hear a comotion in the coop....bagAWK....bagAWWWWWK!! So, I go in there, and out of the nest box, comes the cornishX...just cackling her head off....and I look....there it is..." the egg" My CornishX are outlaying my others!! HAHA!! Go big girls go!!!

I have two chicken runs - one with standard sized pullets, the other with some bantams and two black-sex links. The standard sized pullets were older so I gave them the nest boxes first, thinking they would be laying the first eggs.

Well, surprise, a little bantam pullet beat them all to the punch with a very small white egg layed on top of a bail of straw. I suspected something was up when she starting burrowing in some loose straw I had placed on top of a straw bale. She began twirling round and round to make a nest. The next morning the loose straw was all gone from the top of the bale, but there sat a very small, perfect egg. I guess you could say she spun straw into gold.

After having the gauntlet thrown down by the bantam pullet, some of the standard girls took up the challenge and are now laying their own pretty eggs. So far I think I have two Red Sex-links, a Barred Rock, and an Easter Egger(green shell) laying eggs. These early eggs are small, but tasty! I keep petting and holding my girls everyday and thanking them for their wonderful gifts.
