First Eggs

We started getting out first eggs Friday!!! We have had 8. We have greens and browns so far!! We have had 3 of those freeze, well, we think they froze. They were out in the middle of the coop, (below the roost) or maybe fallen? I don’t know if they can lay while roosting or not. Beginners. They have all been at different times during the day. We were wondering if this will become more consistent? Any advise would be helpful. Thanks “peeps”! JnJ

And they will sort themselves out eventually, its quite normal for new layers to take a while to work things out.
Do you have some fake eggs in the nesting boxes?

They do lay while roosting it falls and cracks. But its not a consistent habit, so you should be good.

Stick any round white ball in the nest box so it helps to guide them visually.

I like golf balls.

They are inexpensive, durable, and I can tell them from real eggs by touch when reaching under a defensive broody while restraining her head with the other hand.
