First experience with bumblefoot

Yes it should be obvious, the scab wil loosen up around the edges. At that stage I carefully pull at it, if it goes easy that´s good, if not I let it be... I always let the plug work itself out, just keep it clean and with something like prid on it, I don´t want to make an open wound that could possibly get infected.
Your case isn´t so bad, it´s not red or swollen, and your bandage looks real good!
Great thanks! Yeah, she hasn't limped or anything. I just caught her lifting her foot to look at the bottom once and that's when I found it.

Hi Wingit, just a suggestion to help- if you're going to do it by yourself, try wrapping your girl up in a towel. I know it sounds crazy but if you'll wrap her up like a little burrito 😆 and then cover up her head- heck, she might fall asleep while you're treating her. But she'll be super easy to work with.

I think my girls love to be wrapped up honestly. It cracks me up

The pictures of your wrap look right on!

We've spent the last few months dealing with bumble in 3 girls. We got the sticky sports tape, our options were CVS or Walgreens. CVS' tape was 10X better than Walgreen's. It stuck and stayed in place.

Get yourself some gauze too, just sayin'.

Wrap her head & body in a towel. She will probably fall asleep. They sure love their heads covered..

It helps BIG TIME if 2 people do it together.

Wouldn't hurt to get yourself a can of PRID...we swear by that stuff for the bumble. We gave up trying to cut it out / take it out long ago. There's too much of the "cheese" in there and if you leave any in there, you're toast and it won't heal.

Good luck!
I agree about Prid. Clean it and soak it if you can. Then put some prid on it and wrap with vet wrap. I get it on Amazon rather than the pharmacy because its for animals and it sticks better. Change the bandaged and reapply Prid ever 2-3 days and see how it goes. Take the scab off each time so the Prid can get inside. It can take a long time but at this stage of bumblefoot it should heal.

I'm in East Texas. It was in the 80s last week but cooler this week. I'll skip the soak on the days it's colder. Looks like we might get below freezing next week.

I'm using vet wrap I got on Amazon and while it does stick pretty good... she manages to unravel it after about 24hrs so I keep having to re-apply. If I can, I'll take an update pic of the scab next time I re-wrap. It's usually in the dark, though. She's easier to grab on the roost.

HI Wingit, If you can get tape from CVS, that stuff is supa stiiiiicky! Are you wrapping her foot with 2 strips or 1? When we ran out of the "good stuff" we had to use the Walgreens tape and with it, we had to use 2 strips instead of 1. It worked for a couple of days but overall it was a hassle and their tape was junk.

I've been using one long strip and cutting it when it's secure. Here's the tape I got:

It sticks well until she starts pulling at it. I watch her closely and I know it's not too tight or too loose but she hates it so I've caught her physically pulling on it with her beak when she thinks I'm not watching.

Hmm, ok so if she's picking at it and it's coming off, I wonder if you could "wrap the wrap" with something or apply a drop of fast drying glue...I know that sounds crazy...but I'm just thinking out loud..or trying to 😆

Hey, I'm always open to suggestions! I saw a thread somewhere on here about using "hockey tape" to secure it at the top too.

My Mona does that too, I found out that if I put the end of the tape underneath the previous round of tape , she can pull at it, but it won´t come off, and it didn´t get too tight, but I kept an eye on it.
That way she had it on for a couple of days, she is very skittish and it was a real struggle every time, and she would avoid me the next couple of days...
And yes, when it gets cold and wet, I would take it off.
I did when it got too cold/wet (didn´t want her to be cold or worse get frostbite ) and the rest of the plug came out within a week, that was after 2,5 months of wrapping, but hers was a double scab and big plug, so yours shouldn´t take that long
