First Flock... First Coop... WOOOHOOO!!!!!

Great job!

Interesting how you realized how much easier it would be to have the long row of nest boxes instead of 3 separate, smaller ones.

Thank you so much for sharing!! I could look at coops and chickens all day long, too.

Very nice job!! I like all of it, but I do have a concern with the chicken wire keeping the chickens contained underneath... 'cause I think that is all it will do.

I don't think chicken wire will keep ANYTHING that wants IN - OUT! I'd use 1/2" hardware cloth and if your coop is going to be stationary, run a couple of feet of it out from the coop as an apron to prevent them from digging their way in.

Very nice build, though. I liked the change from three small nest boxes to one longer layout, too.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestion we have plans to put 2"x3" fencing over the chicken wire with a 1.5" space between the two for the bigger predators. We aren't sure if the holes will be too big, but we took into consideration the gauge of the wire; its pretty thick strong wire. We figure anything small enough to squeeze through a 2"x3" hole wont get through the chicken wire and anything bigger cant get through the strong outer fence...

Any thoughts on this theory?

We have also put chicken wire underneath the 5" of sand on the ground to prevent digging under. Is that going to be sufficient?

That came out really nice! We are currently building ours and I can see why people get excited about their coops and chickens - so much fun already! Again, nice job!!!
