First hatch and first chick!!!!

Day 20 and I’ve been hearing chirps and noticed a few externals PIPs this evening and just went and checked again and I got a chick!!!! It happened so fast I missed it! Is it okay it’s a day early?!? Also will it try to drink the water in the bowl? Or try to get in it? It’s already made it across the incubator and is moving around everywhere.

What’s your humidity set at?

I would keep an eye on the chick, usually people just add wet sponges instead of bowls. if you have no external pips I would switch out the bowl for a sponge real quick. I would leave the chick in the incubator to dry up some. They can survive a good bit without food or water after hatching.

I have 4 other external PIPs that I can see. The one that hatched is one I couldn’t even see. I was able to draw the water out of the bowl with a large syringe and tubing. My humidity is at 72%. It’s been going between 65-75% since lock down.

Oh that’s neat! Just keep an eye on the humidity. Hopefully they will all hatch by day 21. But yeah chicks are clumsy this young and could accidentally drown in a bowl of water

i got all the water out of it and the sponge takes up most of the room in it. I don’t think it’s shallow enough for it to get in but at least most of the water is out now. I’m too scared to open the incubator and take it out.
