First Hatch - Candling or no?

I candled my brown eggs every day till lock down, using a bright flashlight. It was excellent. We're on day 20 atm 3 hatched 6 piped and 6 more ?s as I can't see them well. I was able to spot bad egg every early and remove and also an early quitter that would likely stuck up my incubation if I had not.. This was our second hatch, the first I didn't candle and of 8 eggs we had two leak in the bator.
Also wanted to add we have 10 black copper maran eggs in our second bator and with the bright flash light on day 7 I couldn't see veins but I could see the darkening on one side, so u can still tell good from bad eggs. We had 2 bad and I could see that they were not fertile .
Good luck

you'll want to be able to see good so whatever it takes, depending on egg opacity .. im sure the phone will be fine for white eggs, darker ones, you'll probably want to get a decent flashlight .. i've settled on day 10 as better and the only time candling is really necessary to remove 'clear' eggs that arnt developing, they 'will' be stinking by hatch time .. but at hatch time late bloomers i'll check again to make sure they dont still look '10 day developed' or sloshy and its completely 'dark' with a guy in there lol ... maybe peep at him and say hi lol ..
