We just watched out first chick hatch (one I thought for sure I shrink wrapped) but turns out was just resting up for the big day?? My question now is the temp in the incubator is all over the place. It spiked up to 102 then dropped to 98.6 but the humidity has been staying the same at 65%. Do I need to get the back back to 100? (LG still air w/o fan) I don't want our first chick to get to hot or be to cold. Is it normal for the temp to be going up and down like this?? I heard about humitdity changing which mine never seemd to do and the chick wasn't really watery when it hatched so maybe that's why it didn't change?? But why would the temp shoot up to 102?? Anyone???

Did you open up the air holes? Congrats on the hatching. As soon as it dries remove it to the brooder. Hopefully your temp will stabalize for the rest of the eggs. Good luck.

Congratulations on your first hatch. Before you use your incubator again, I would recommend that at least you replace the wafer in it. The temperature should stay stable. Also if you can afford to add anything to your bator, I would buy a fan for it. Even if the bator was not built for a fan, it is very simple to add the fan unit to a Styrofoam bator. If you can't find the parts at your local feed store, the parts are easy to get online.

Both air holes are open. Should I crack one of the windows? If I do that should I add water to keep the humidity up? The chick seems to be doing okay was stumbling around for a while but now it's resting...hoping this is normal

We have 4 more pips and one of them was starting to zip with the hatched chick was peeping but now they both seem to be resting. (Should I wait to take the first one out so as not to hurt the others??) Should I just play with the temp and try to get it back as close as I can to 100?

I got the bator used...maybe this is why they sold it??
