My first hatch and we were given 10 eggs that were 3 wks old. (My fault, kinda, my incubator turner did not work when I got it and had to send it back for repair, took extra 10 days). 5 eggs were duds but 4 out of the last 5 hatched with 1 still in the incubator. Was told to leave it in to about day 23. Eggs were Serama and Cochin mixes. All 4 are really small and 1 has the fuzzy feet like a Cochin. This is so addictive though, I am ready to go again.

Aww they are so tiny! I want the Brinsea Mini-Advanced so bad! Is it easy to use?
Very easy to use. Temp stays right on and I just filled one resevoir with water and when it ran out filled it again and before I could even go in lockdown and fill 2nd resevoir I had chicks!! My turner didnt work when I got it but they were awesome on customer service and fixed it raight away and sent it back. You can set turner angle and timing and even has a new cool down feature where it shuts off the heat for a set time *** if the hen was leaving the nest to feed or poop. Highly recommend it...

That's awesome. Thanks. When I get one, that's probably what I'll get because of the limited number of chicks it can hatch and because everyone says it's so easy.

Awww, they are so cute. That's a great record, given how old the eggs were.

As a side note, the instructions for my (older) mini advance say that when you put them into lockdown, to take the turning plate out and to put something else down on the bottom, like kitchen paper. That slick surface can cause spraddle leg, which really, really sucks.

here's a picture of my brinsea, and what I do for lockdown. I cut some of that nubby shelf paper (available at dollar tree or wherever) to fit. At lockdown, I take out the turning plate, put this down, put the eggs on top of it, add water and step away.

That was the plan but I got home and they were hatching! Turner was still on, had 2 hours before lockdown....They didnt wait.....Will be better prepared next time.......I guess Seramas can hatch earlier than "normal" chickens.....I bought some at Walmart and had some felt also, read that on here about it. Any more tips would ne great. You can check em out at www.ustream.tv search for (hawgon)

Getting ready to use mine for the first time and have a question about the cooling period. What did you select? Between 60 and 360 minutes, it recommends 120 (2 hours) for smaller poultry. Is that what you used? I'm incubating small silkie eggs.

At the moment the brinsea offical website has it for 69 or something like that I did some checking I could get it for 89 shipped to me .

Thats just hte eco though not the fancy ones

Thanks! I've always used broody silkies so this will be my first time. My silkie hardly ever gets off her eggs, and never everyday. She'll turn them but doesn't go out. I guess I'll do 60 minutes too. :D
