Well, we did it. Day 19 we had 7 out of 12 quail chicks hatched from our incubator. We were thrilled at this hatch rate bc we felt we were so inexperienced and running by the seat of our pants on this. Ok so now we realized one thing we did wrong. Instead of gathering the eggs to incubate all at once, we kept adding them as they were laid into the bator. So now we had 5 eggs left and decided to let them stay just to see if more late ones would hatch. Yesterday we got 2 more chicks (22nd day). Now there's the last 3 eggs left but I don't have high hopes for more hatches. We tried to candle the eggs as the instructions said but we could not see through the shells. And we lost one of the last 2 chicks hatched tonight. Now we've been saving eggs all week and are ready to incubate them all at the same time. At any rate, we are still thrilled with the outcome for our first try.
