This is my first hatch. I've had chicks before I have to admit it much easier with the hen then a brooder pen. They are barn yard mix some rode islands and other reds mixt to a green tailed rooster.

Awesome! Some day i hope to add a roo to our flock, so we can hatch some.

A good rooster is a joy to watch, the way he tidbits for the girls and guides them to best spots. We have portable coops and sometimes the hens get confused after we've moved a coop and one of our Orpingtons always sticks with the stragglers until we "help him" get his hens to bed. Another one of our roosters will help the hens find the best egg box to lay in. Lots of our roosters act like mother hens with all chicks.
