Hey there

My first incubator chick has just hatched. Is it normal for them not to be able to stand straight away. It seems to be able to put pressure on one foot but not the other. The other keeps turning under. It trys to get up and then just lays down and closes its eyes. It is breathing ok and chirping heaps.

I have hatched heaps of chicks under broody hens but this is my first time with my incubator.

Thanks, Michelle

I can't help with the standing issue but wanted to say congratulations to you on that first chick!

I agree...it just takes a bit to get the hang of things. After all, it takes people around 8 months! Congratulations on you first hatch. Isn't it exciting?

Hi everyone, I got up thismorning and there were 5, now there are 6. You are right, the oldest is starting to move about more. One has just hatched and its navel hasn't closed up properly. It is spotting blood. Not alot, its more weeping a little blood. What do I do here??

Mine all did that as well. I think its fairly normal but hopefully someone with more experience will confirm.
Congrats on all your fuzzies!!!
