First Incubator up and running with Eggs!!!

I used a turkey baster to suction some of the water out, to adjust the humidity level. I kept my levels around 35-40%. 60-65% during lockdown.

that's cute... i think i should've gotten a little one like that too... right now i'm building an incubator, and i'm mad because i can only fit 60 eggs in it... LOL...

maybe i just bit more than i can chew...

keep us updated on your chickies...

On turning eggs: I've read to turn them 3 times a day. Is that a minimum? Can I turn them more often if at home, and would that be good to do? I'm thinking in terms of balancing out temps etc., since the temps are not exactly the same throughout...

Three times a day is minimum. My turner moves them around 24 time a day. And can be programed for 32 times a day. So I guess the more the merrier. I dont know if this is true but I read some were that hens could move there eggs 200 time a day. Sounds like a lot to be.

Well, I took everyone's advice and moved the humidity from 55% to 45%. Cant get it down any farther without it being 18%. I had to put marbles in the water holder to reduce the surface area but it worked. I just have to add water more often. I read allot, even on the main page of BYC that say 55% is good for the first 18 days. But allot of people on this post are veterans. So Im putting my trust in you.

Today was day 10. I candled for the first time. Four out of the seven eggs are coming along just fine. The other three were the white silkies and were never fertilized. All the BBS Silkies are doing great. Hope it stays that way.
