Today was a very warm day so I took my two week old chicks outside just for a very little while. I watched them closely and sprinkled just a tiny bit of chick grit and some crumbles on the ground. Well, they went after the grit, but now their poop is dark reddish brown (the grit is red), runny and stinky. The mistake I probably made was being overly cautious and wanting them to be able to digest a bug if they found one. Will this correct itself? (Their normal diet is medicated crumbles and water.) Thank you.

Bumping this up for you:) Honestly in my 9 years of owning chickens, have never fed any of my chicks or chickens grit and never had a problem. They are allowed to free-range every evening. I would think that the diarrhea would clear itself up, but will let other folk who have more experience in this department answer:)

I dont have any idea either.

My older chicks are approx 10 wks, and I just gave them grit the 1st time the other day. They have been outside and foraging for awhile and I gave them treats from about 3 wks to present without grit. Never had problems.

i have given grit and have the same problem
