First invasion of predators :(

I had an experience with coons. The ones I had went into the coop, grabbed a bird, ate it on the spot, then left leaving the carcass behind. The second time my husband caught them red-handed. He beat them with a hockey stick until they fled and they've never been back! That was two winters ago. The predator I have that hauls the birds away leaving only feathers behind is a fox.

Like your use of the swing set. That's pretty awesome. Those coons will keep coming until you dispatch them. In my exsperieance that is and I have only had chickens for four years now. But we have a lot of predator exsperience. The hard way unfortunately for our chickens. How ever we have an awesome set up now and only time there really at risk is when they free range. And we still loose one at times. Even in the day. But we have a lot of diffrent predators. Can't kill them all. And our bulldog is not to fast. However he loves his chickens. There his friends lol.

Awe I feel your pain I lost 4 of my chickens Monday to a silver fox now I only have 2 left

....... I thought my coop was predetor proof .... But they are crafty !!!! Now I have to figure out where in ny I can buy more because 2 just isn't enough ....

I shot it last night!! It was a mom coon though so I feel bad about the babies in the den somewhere

Do not feel bad. I never look forward to killing anything, but you have to protect your animals. Coons are abundant in many areas across the country, so population control is necessary. This 30+ lb boar was causing problems:

I found two digging sites around one of my poultry yards. It took a few days of setting traps but I got him. Coons are persistent like other predators, and will keep coming back if the draw is there without interruption.
