My DH just called and he had to cull our rooster "Little Man" He said that he got got home and Little Man was walking in circles and fell over on his side, closed his eyes. DH could not stand to watch so he ended his life. Over the past couple of weeks LM had lost all his breast feathers and his comb looked as if he had been beaten up. His chest was also wounded. He is a bantam and the girls are all standards. I don't have any idea what may have happened to him, but DH took him to the top of the Mountain and placed him to rest. I hope there wasn't something I could have done. I am just going to tell DH that LM probably had a heart attack and there was nothing else to be done. It will be sad not to hear LM every morning.
UPDATE: I was so sad last night thinking that I would never hear a crow again from Little Man. He was our only rooster, however, this am I heard a crow from one of our six week old chicks in the brooder in the basement. Now we are going to have another rooster and he has let us know he will take Little Man's place.....................................
