Hi All,

I have 16 BO's They are almost 2 years old and in their first molt, I guess.

This is the first molt for both me and them. I have noticed that the egg production
has dropped to zero. It has been a week and no eggs. I am just making sure
that this in normal and that nothing else is going on.

They are lively and happy.
They get fresh water and food daily plus treats.
I feed them some scratch every morning when I let them out into their chicken play area.

Is severe egg drop off normal? Also, when can I expect them to start laying again?

One more question, this is probably the best time to worm them right? I wormed then last
march, would it be too soon if I do in now?

Thanks,
Roy and flock

You're experiencing a double whammy.
1) They're molting - so no egg production.
2) The shorter daylight hours during the winter produces fewer eggs.

Egg production will pick up some after the molt.
The closer to Spring - the more eggs you'll get again.

Don't know much about the worming since I've never had to worm mine. Sorry.

From what I've learned about chickens so far you are correct with every thing that you've said. You have the answers...be confident.... and have fun!!!
