First night in the coop... Is there always this amount of drama?

I felt my were afraid of the dark so I put a night light in the coop and they did much better or did I do much better knowing they had light, I am more of a sap then them.

Pre-molt my girls all went to bed just fine. Now they have to fuss about who roosts where.

And to think chickens survived back in the day without us putting them to bed at night!

Your story put a big smile on my face

Our six girls were totall stressed on their first night in the coop so I put a light in there and it calmed them right down ... kept the lamp in there for about a week -- it was more for my benefit than theirs

I loved your story. I have 4 Cinnimon Queens and 6 Ameracaunas. I had 12 foot of roost area and they couldn't all share it. I would go out to tuck them in at night and I would find two to four on the poop board under the roost and have to put them on the roost. After 6 days of that I built a ladder style roost and now its always a fight who gets the top roost However when we had a cold night I went out and they were all huddled up on the top roost. I have 3 roosts nowll 6 feet long at diiferent levels. But the Cinnimon Queens are sure the top ones.2 of them chase and pick on all the other ones. This is my first time with chickens so I am learning. Its worst than putting kids to bed at night. I most nights stay in the coop until they all settle in. I have 6 laying but the last four I got it took them 6 days to go out into the run so Iam thinking another week before I see any eggs from them if not spring. But they are settling in now. But I am glad my hubby doesn't have a video camera at night.

My real TV actually went on the fritz this week. I'm going to have to put my lawn chair back out in the yard again, although it's getting a little cold for the chicken show now.

My girls do that every night. They squabble and step/over each other and squak until they each get situated. My rooster has decided to start roosting outside just to get away from all the girls he has to deal with! I have to physically put him away every night!
