Tonight I decided to put the flock in their new coop. I waited until it was dark to move them from their old coop to the new one. One thing that I did change from the old coop to the new one was the roost bars. The old coop had all the roost bars at the same height. With the new coop I made the a ladder style roost, placing the top of the pecking order on the top bars and the lowest on the lower bars with everyone else somewhere in the middle. What would be the best way to get them to go into their new coop on their own without me or my wife assisting them at night? Should I continue to place them in the new coop until they get the idea that, that is their new home? Any help or suggestions would be great thanx

If this is a run/coop set up, just lock them in and when it gets dark they will go in the new coop.

If your old coop is still there, just lock it up so they can't get in it. Some will need a placement for a couple of days, but generally they catch right on.

Thanks Mrs K. I can't lock them in/ around the new coop as of yet, I plan on working on the run and the new and improved chicken yard and as soon as I have a few days off of work. I will lock them out of their old coop, hoping they get the idea. Thank you again
