Hey ya'll!

This is my first post. I've wanted to have a backyard flock for some time now. We are going to purchase eggs for hatching as a science project for our homeschool. We may keep them or we may give them to some friends that have a daughter that does 4-H and raises chickens (just a small flock). We'll have to see how it goes. So, I'm here looking for advice on how late in the year is okay to order eggs. We have an out-of-town thing at the end of April, so we were hoping to not miss the hatching. Hmmm...

Glad to have you here!
The problem with ordering late in the year is acclimatizing them outside. I got some last fall and was lucky to have a warm fall, got them out during a warm spell, and they did fine. If it's cold where you are, you might be stuck with them inside all winter

What about May? I'm VERY new to all of this, so I have no clue how long they need to acclimate. I'm guessing that they don't need that long, but wouldn't want to be wrong on that one!

Nope. Just Wyoming. You all are quick to answer my questions!!! Wow! Thanks! Now just to decide what we are gonna get.
