First predator and a kill

This is why I don't judge others for how they handle their predators. Sobba's situation was warranted in the use of lethal force to protect the flock. Ya did good! I wouldn't take any threat to my flock lightly. Our first predator caught in the act of stalking our ducks was a 40lb old, male eastern coyote. This species is also known as a brush wolf, as they are big & don't like to come out of the woods into the open. He didn't get the memo, I guess. Old & hungry, but in wrong place at the wrong time. He was shot & died within seconds. It gets easier to do in predators after they get away with some of your birds.

Dealing with the predator in manner done is not problem. It is attitude against opposing opinions expressed by OP. Additionally those with such attitudes attempt to sound tough. I have been in many interactions over many years with such predators and found they are not worthy of fear or bragging rights and especially not as something to set your self apart from the "tree-huggers".

Dissenting opinions were not asked for, I am not asking for permission to dissent.

Give her a break. A first predator taken care of, is worthy of a few kudos in my book! With more experience it will just become another farm chore to her. Let's just hope there aren't more experiences that end up with lost birds, though. ;)

As I am a woman conditioned to nurture, my first kill came with a lot of mixed emotions. I think it's important to share this with others. I've had to deal with a handful or less preds around here every year. It does get old after a while. I believe Katie, that you will come to terms with what you've done to rightfully protect your flock & you won't need anybody's validation anymore.

I wish you the best!

Really don't know what you are trying to get at since you didn't clarify your first question but if you have something to say against my actions do yourself a favor and leave it be. I said in my opening post that I'm not interested in hearing it. I'm PROUD of my actions and no matter what any snake lover says I will continue to kill the ones that are a threat to my flock. I'm not interested at all in hearing anymore opinions on what I should have done. This is my post and people should grow up and respect what I asked in the first place. I grew up being told told if you don't have anything nice to say, keep your mouth shut! If you see a post that bugs you, stay out off it. Seems easy to me.

Lol thank you for being so supportive!

I really sound like I enjoyed it though? I protected my flock, that's all. I live in the middle of no where, I grew up on nothing but farms, death is life but I'm not going to just hand my chickens over

I hear ya sister! That's all there is to it.
Tone of some posts are hard to decipher sometimes. Maybe not so much as enjoyed it, but sounded like excited about it. Hey, I was excited too when I shot my first small varmint with an air pistol & it dropped instantly! This little $&@!%£ & his buddies ate & cached a lot in chicken feed! I'm not putting up with that!

Well I certainly was excited about it but not for the reasons everyone seems to think :) You are 100% correct, it's just a farm chore. This first time was exciting because now I feel like a real "farmer"

I'm sure in the years to come I'll come to see it as nothing but a nuisance. That is life.

Predator-16 Family-3

We have had 16 of our 52 chickens killed! Now we're down to 36. The odd thing is, our rooster is still living, while all our hens are getting killed off! We have about 4 or 5 traps, with all kinds of food in them, and we've only caught 2 raccoons, and a possum.

Wow. Plus, we have game cameras set up. All they've got pictures of, is chickens and one time, a raccoon. Again,

wow. This is frustrating.

No idea what it is, or, how it gets in!

Congrats Sobba! Did it look like these? Black Rat Snakes.
Kill'em, release'm...don't matter, get them away. As you can see, I don't mind them, but not opposed to whatever you or anyone else does with them.
These two were only 5 1/2' - 6'. Found in a basement.
