First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Pics
Here are mine and they have no more poop than any other chicken:
BTW I did not see your pictures and that you FR yours until after I typed the last reply, I am a very slow two finger typer.

The box thing is there home..

I do not know your background, it could be you have a different quantity of poop that you consider acceptable. I grew up on a farm and know if you have animals, you have poop and you will step in it.

I only raise 30 at a time at this point and I can imagine that 250 CX could be overwhelming. I only feed mine a measured amount of food a couple of times per day, so they don't just eat and eat. I can't tell really that there is more poop from them over my other chickens, with the exception that there is 30 of them. I absolutely love to seem them running around doing chicken things. Again Holm - if I lived nearby I would have gladly adopted them from you.

Plaid - We did two nights of processing one week apart. The first night we processed all of the biggest birds and did it totally outside. It worked well. The second week we did the rest but it was 107 degrees out and the yellow jackets have been coming out really bad. Therefore, my husband did the culling, scalding and plucking outside and then brought the birds inside to me to process in the kitchen, where I had some air conditioning. The only problem with doing outside is the heat and the yellow jackets. It is easier to clean up.

You have fallen into the trap. I did with my first batch. Most of them were gross. Most of them sat at the feeder and pooped while they ate. I saw hope in a few of them that played and ran. Then I read a bunch of threads on here about raising them free Range or like regular chicks. Do not blame yourself it is easy to fall into the trap. I even see some here that advocate the "common wisdom'.
CX's are great bird with super personalities, if you give them the right environment. I feed mine 18% protein and not very much. I am purposely slowing their growth down. Mine are 4 weeks old today and no where near full size. They live in a "tractor brooder" but have access to the outdoors and free range. I have 23 left after a predator incident, I feed them 3 cottage cheese containers of feed a day. 1 in the morning and 2 in the evening. I dump it on the ground in a line or little piles.

So as I said do not blame the CX's, blame the people telling you they need to be fed 24-28% protein 12 hours a day!
We raised 250 and I took 40 and did this I only fed them a little in the morning and then it happened my family did chores and they saw how hungry they were and they thought I was starving them. And I will never win the fight for less protein and less feed.

250 birds! wow..... 250 of any chickens will leave LOTS of poop! How much land do they have to run? I am impressed with the 250! What are your plans for them?

They have ALOT of room but they walked out the door and laid there but the ones that I raised on very little feed were very lean not alot of fat and they played all day and we butchered quite a few and sold 47 live ones they sold in like 12 hours of being posted on craigslist and $7 a bird
