No, Holm, she didn't fall. She never got up onto things. I'm fairly certain it was a heart attack.
I only fed her once per day since we decided to keep her. She had to forage for anything else that she ate.
Ah well. She was a delight for the time she was with us.
I'm sorry to hear about your Sunny. She was beautiful. It is with an extremely heavy heart that I tell you that Sunny went to be with Bert today. I knew they'd get their chance to meet some day. She was just 3 weeks from one year old. I believe she had a heart attack as I found her on her back sitting next to her little house. She was quite purple. This makes me very sad. I was hoping to celebrate her birthday with a cake.Rest in Peace Sunny - 8/5/2014 - 7/13/2015

Here are a couple pictures. Any ideas of what ages they might be? At what age can you start sexing them? I think there might be some varying ages as we had to get them from multiple bins to get all 30. It is fun to watch them grow. Every day when I look at them they look a little bit older. For those who keep the cx to mate do you recommend keeping a male or female? I am thinking male as a male can cover many females even with a shorter life vs a female who only lays so many eggs in a short life. We have several Large hens the male could cover that would make interesting babies. I am thinking about keeping 1 male and maybe 1-2 females but I'm not sure yet. Eta: sorry the pics are so horrible we are using a red light bulb.We are planning to free roamthem with our other chickens in our fenced backyard. I'll have to get some pics when I feed them tonight.
