First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Thanks Red. No I never did find out what the marauder was.Ive been wondering how you folks on the west coast were doing. I beleive the reason for no second attempt is because of the electric fence. Your aviary sounds. Like a good plan.

You are truly an inspiration Jessica.

Ditto on that. Jessica, you really made me realize what a joy these birds can be.

This year's batch of meaties seem particularly lively. Here are some pictures of me opening the brooder to the yard this morning and the little birds venturing out. They are 2 1/2 weeks now.

Those chicks look awesome Morrigan!! I so miss them.

Thank you for the vote of confidence from you both. I need it! It may seem like what I do is awesome and it really is, but raising this number of chickens humanely, smartly and basically correct is a challenge. Selling the eggs isn't. I have that down pat but any little ooopsie can reduce egg production. While you try to do everything right, the wind can blow in the wrong direction and the girls won't want to lay. It is a bigger challenge than you would think.

Now on to ducks as well. They arrive in November. All I can say is that it will be really interesting and hopefully alot of fun!

Doing what you love and loving what you do is a blessing. It's a hobby for me,for now ..... Hopefully it will it will become a self sustaining one.

Thought about you today Jessica. Went to the grocery store, organic brown eggs almost 5$ a dozen. It staggers my mind
Less than $5 per dozen in TX huh? I am blessed to live where I do I think. Local organic eggs sells for between $7-8 per dozen here. Corporate organic eggs don't get more than $5.49 per dozen. For god's sake they are still living in sheds with a friggin peephole of outside light. Healthy and happy hens, my rear.

I don't claim organic. I do corn and soy free, pasture raised. My eggs sells for $6.49 a dozen off the shelf. Worth far more than corporate shed peephole eggs!
